Applying For European Health Insurance Card Renewal Ireland

How you apply depends on whether you live in Ireland or in another European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland member state.

You can apply for an EHIC if you are an Irish citizen or an EU citizen living in Ireland.

  • in person at your local health office, except in Dublin North West, Dublin South, Kildare, and West Wicklow
  • by mail or online, but only if you have a medical card or Drug Payment Scheme card and live in Ireland
  • You must have an address in Ireland and live there. You'll have to show proof that this is true.
